Championed by our founder Mark Deutschmann, Core has long been a catalyst in the revitalization and development of Nashville’s most in-demand neighborhoods. For decades, we have had our eye towards the future of urban living, working to build mixed-use and residential developments that are not only a pioneer for neighborhood change, but also respect and protect their landscapes and the environment.
Through the years, Mark’s work has shaped and transformed Nashville into the vibrant Southeastern city it is today. Beginning with a real estate career and selling property within a one-mile radius of Hillsboro Village, Mark’s vision and thoughtful foresight led him to see how much people in Nashville were craving walkable urban developments. The impact and lasting results of the developments Mark went on to build have been immeasurable. Examples include the early establishment of the 12 South and Wedgewood Houston neighborhoods; projects such as the historic Kress Lofts and Art Avenue Lofts which created the basis for accessible housing and urban living in the Downtown core; and the extensive adaptive reuse development of Werthan Lofts in Germantown which stimulated and completely evolved the area.
Several of these projects have been honored by the Urban Land Institute with the Excellence in Development Award, and the outcome has been walkable and liveable communities that anchor the fabric of Nashville’s urban core.

Mark is an entrepreneur, community builder, neighborhood champion, and author of “One Mile Radius – Building Community From The Core.” He is the founder and CEO of Core Development, founder of CityLiving Group and founder and Chair Emeritus of Village real estate. He also serves as president for both the Urban Land Institute Nashville and Greenways for Nashville, and serves on the Mayor’s Sustainability Advisory Board.
